Generational Fertility Comparison

How has fertility changed from one generation to the next? Compare how many children your peers are having versus their parents to see how fertile your social network really is.

For each adult friend who has had children, enter:
  • How many siblings they have
  • How many children they have
Only include friends where you know both answers.

Intergenerational Fertility

Each line traces a friend from their parents’ family size (left) to their own (right).

How It Works

This tool estimates intergenerational fertility change by comparing your friend’s number of children to the size of the family they grew up in. The “parents’ generation” figure is calculated as siblings + 1 (i.e. the total children their parents had). The difference reveals whether fertility is rising, stable, or declining across your social circle.

This is an informal comparison tool, not a demographic model. It works best with 10 or more entries and is most meaningful when you include a mix of friends from different backgrounds.
